How to Clear your Web Browser Cache

You’ve probably heard someone say – “You need to clear your cache!”

But what does it mean?

To make web browsing faster, web browsers will download web pages and then store them on the hard drive in your computer in a place that is commonly called “cache“.

Cache is an area of your computers Hard Drive that is set aside for storing system information.

It contains a history of the items you have viewed, watched, listened to or downloaded from the internet, including videos, sounds, pictures, Web pages, and cookies. These items are usually stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

To save time when you visit the same page again, the browser speeds things up by loading the page from the cache instead of downloading everything again from the Web.

While this does save time, it sometimes results in versions of web pages being displayed that are not current.

And when the cache fills up, web browsing can slow down. Your hard drive may even run out of space which would slow down your computer totally.

The most common need for this is . . .

. . . when you are working on a website with a number of changes.  Sometimes you will not immediately see the latest changes coming through immediately.  To see the changes straight away, you should clear the cache.

Anyway, you should regularly “clear the cache” to allow your browser to function more efficiently.

To clear the cache in your web browser, please see the following steps listed below.
