I was reflecting on the evolution of the Telephone and Customer Service last week. Here’s what I came up with.
There was a time, (before mobile phones), when you could contact any customer in your local area for a fixed, local call price.
Then along came the 1800 number, and while this made the call free for the customer, the business paid more.
Now everyone has a mobile phone, and the cost of contacting your customers is more like a long distance call used to be.
And you are giving them all of your product information on your website, so you cannot even get to talk with them. At best, they might send an Information Request with an email address.
