I recently received an email with several questions, including . . . “I haven’t had one bit of interest from the new website traffic . . .
What should I do?”
I am sure that almost every website owner asks this question at some point, whether the website has been up for a long time or just a couple of weeks like this one was.
Well, there is are a few simple answers to this so common question and it all starts
with proactively generating traffic to your website!
It does not just happen by itself.
Think of launching a new website as being like opening a new shop or business.
Just like a new shop, websites do not automatically generate traffic.
[That’s why shops with established goodwill are so much more valuable than new shops.]
A shop owner must take steps to generate traffic to the shop.
So the first thing most people do is to add sign writing . . . so that people passing by know what is in the building and are tempted to stop by at some time.
Sign writing on the building, billboards in the yard, A-frames on the footpath, etc.
But not all buildings are located on a busy street, and the rent is usually much higher in buildings that experience high passing traffic.
So you are already paying extra to have traffic passing your shop . . . although not necessarily coming into your shop.
[That is why shopping centre rents are so extraordinarily high – up to 10 times or more the rent in a shop elsewhere.]
So then they might do other advertising, like a letterbox drop in the neighbourhood to let people know that they are open and where they are.
They might put an advert in the local newspaper, (and in years gone by, in the Yellow Pages, LOL).
Next up, they might even consider TV or radio advertising.
And so the list goes on . . .
It is not enough to just open a shop . . . you have to promote it.
And websites are no different.
Just building a website does not automatically create traffic or customers.
You have to let Google know that it is there, or wait for Google to find it.
Even once Google finds it, you start with a low Page Ranking and have to increase your Page Ranking through a variety of strategies, including:
– SEO Search Engine Optimisation
– adding content to your website
We have already talked a lot about building content and how to go about it.
(This article, which is website content, originated from an email that I received from a client . . . as do many of these articles.)
Here are some other links that you might check out on our website on this subject:
. . . and that is how you create new content for your website . . . from everyday occurrences in your business.
Well, that is quite simple really!
