You may not be aware that there are ways of Protecting images and copyright in your website.
With the vast quantity of websites being created, it is difficult to keep track of where images are being used.
But the legal eagles have reported that the sophisticated image matching software available is being used to track pictures and report illegal image usage.
But how does the small business and website owner protect the original content that they have produced for their website.
With the technology that is readily available now on every desktop computer, that is getting harder and harder to do.
But that same technology can also help to protect the small business owner as well.
There are websites available for use by website owners to track and trace images that may have been originally copied from their website.
The question ultimately though is whether the return on your time taken in tracking down copied images is worth the effort in pursuing it, and whether a valuable compensation claim can be justified.
Software locks in your website
Another option is to put a software lock in the code of your website which prevents the normals keystrokes involved in saving an image from a web page, (see the featured image above).
However, there are easy enough alternatives to this method of downloading an image, including the popular “screen grab”, “screen shot”, “screen capture”, etc.
It is known by many different names, but essentially, it is taking a photo of a computer screen . . . which is the electronic version of taking a photo of a photo.
The resultant image is of almost the same quality as the original . . . problem solved for the ‘hacker’!
Except that this is also just a sequence of keystrokes and so code can be used to stop it.
Protect the entire website
And in fact . . . if your website content is valuable enough, we can instal code that protects copying of words and pages from your website, not just images.
So if your website content is sensitive, consider asking about this option.
Well, that is quite simple really!
