Here’s a quick tip to avoid computer viruses
I still don’t understand, nor have heard any reasonable explanation for, computer viruses.
What’s the point of creating them, (unless it is a conspiracy to make money by selling anti-virus software! LOL).
Anyway, there are many simple ways to avoid getting a computer virus . . .
1. The most effective is:
Get a computer that is immune to viruses.
It has been widely known that Apple computers do not get viruses, and despite some rumours in the last year, they still have not materialised. In 4+ years I have not had a virus on an Apple Mac.
Of course, this is the most expensive option, and not open to everyone.
2. The next method is:
Use antivirus Software
It’s a fact of life – you just about gotta have it these days, (unless you own an Apple Mac!).
Prices range from $20 to $50 with many providers having free, lower featured options.

3. The cheapest quick tip to avoid computer viruses is:
Be careful what you do with emails
This is easier said than done, because some viruses get into your computer even before you open the email or attachment.
The golden rule is –
Never open an email if you don’t know the sender
And never open attachments that you are not 100% certain about; i.e. you know that the attachment was being sent to you and by whom.
But there are still some simple precautions that you can take.
A) check out the email address of the sender.
Be suspicious of anything that does not come from an actual and real website domain name. Yahoo email addresses seem to be the worst for spam, etc., but also watch the gmail addresses and others.
B) If the email address does come from an actual and real website domain name, then check it out online.
It is usually safe to open your web browser and type in the url. You can then assess the source of the email depending on the website that shows, if one shows at all.
4. Another quick tip to avoid computer viruses is to
Eliminate Spam from your Inbox
Again, often easier said than done without the assistance of computer software.
We use SpamArrest to stop email before it gets to the Inbox.
5. When I posted this to Facebook, someone suggested the next quick tip to avoid computer viruses . . .
Stay away from Porn Sites
In fact, stay away from any sites that are not reputable.
But porn sites in particular are renowned for having pop-up screens and hidden viruses and software.
So be warned ! LOL 😀
6. Another reader added this:
Have good computer backups
This goes without saying for a whole lot of reasons.
And yes, the risk of getting caught with a virus and having your whole computer trashed is very real.
So good backups will go a long way to easing the pain if your computer does get attacked.
This reader also metioned that some viruses, and malware, is designed to access your information and then use it fraudulently. For example, your credit card or banking details, and passwords that might be stored in your computer.
SO – even more reason to use anti-virus software. The $20 invested will pale to insignificance compared to getting your bank account wiped out.
What should you do now?
