The 7 Rules Of SEO!
SEO or Search Engine Optimisation determines how many people are going to find, or not find, your website. So following The 7 Rules Of SEO is important.
Now, having said that . . . anyone who claims to know the absolute 7 Rule of SEO with 100% certainty is probably pulling your leg.
But there are some good founding principles to follow that are still valid, while many have changed over the years.
Google uses your website’s SEO or Search Engine Optimisation in a complex algorithm to set a ranking which determines how close to Page 1 you will get for any particular keyword or keyword phrase.
Not only Google of course, but all search engines including Bing, Yahoo, etc. They all have different algorithms and rules. But let’s face it … Google is the biggie.
Big companies have big SEO budgets; but there are things that you can do on your website too . . .
1. Utilise Google’s free tools.

Your business may already have a listing here which you can secure.
If not, you can register a new listing.
The same applies for using Google+, which can and does influence Google search results.
A link here helps Google decide which sites people think are important – part of the move to a more “social” evaluation of SEO.
Look for the top search keywords and phrase in your industry.
Then use the Google AdWords Keyword Tool to find which of these are searched most frequently.
These keywords should then be used sparingly throughout your website, blog posts and articles.

2. Start blog writing.
Your blog is one of the easiest ways to add strong keywords to your website.
The way we set up a website for you, your blogs can be easily shared across all popular social networks which increases potential for traffic to your site.
Select the keywords you want to target and devise a publishing schedule to follow.
Best days for traffic from blog posts seem to be Monday and Tuesday mornings, although opinions vary on this.
3. Use the opening paragraph of your articles.
While you cannot control what the search engines will display, it is often the first 75 to 100 characters of body text.
So put the most keyword-rich information up front to make sure that Google uses that part of your article or press release.
4. Always include hyperlink in news releases.
Whenever you send out a press release or any information that you hope to get published – whether in print or on another website – always include a link to your website, and specific pages in your website.
While search rankings from backlinks has diminished somewhat in importance, this will help to drive traffic to your website by increasing search rankings and by readers linking back from the published articles.
As a guide, use 3-4 hyperlinked keywords per every 500 words.
Use anchor text to direct clicks to the website pages that have the most relevance, e.g.
- a free download of some kind
- a special deal or offer
- a case study page
- the description of a particular product or service
5. Here’s one that we do for you.
When we write articles, we try to include links to our client’s websites where that is appropriate to the subject.
We do also link to other sites . . . so if you have some information that you think is relevant to our readers, please send it through and we will back link to your website.
(The article must not already be published on your website or anywhere else.)
6. Use professionally written copy writing.
Take a leap forward by using professionally written copy in your website and bog articles.
And make use of the SEO section of your page and blog post editor to select what keywords Google will focus on your pages.
The page title, (what you see in search results and at the top of your browser), is extremely important for SEO.
Use Google’s Keyword Tool to select keywords for your page title.
7. Let Google tell you what is happening
Set up your Google Analytics account and then ask your web developer to add the account key into your website.
Then you can see a lot of information about your website traffic; from how people are finding you to how long they stay on each page.
You can use this to refine and focus your future website content.
Well, that is quite simple really!
