The most obvious marketing tip for any business is to provide what your customers and potential customers are looking for.
But with so much competition in local precincts, even that sometimes is not enough.
And how do you get found if you are not located in a popular cafe strip or food court?
So, ask yourself . . . what else are people looking for in a cafe or restaurant?
What are they doing while waiting for their friends to arrive, or drinking their coffee?
Facebook, of course!
Or perhaps some other online work, research or pastime.
But mobile download data is still very expensive here.
So do you think free Wi-fi would attract customers to choose your cafe or restaurant?
If your food and service is of a comparable standard to your neighbours, then a free Wi-fi offer could help swing the decision.
It could cost as little as $20-$30 per month on your existing phone line.
So I cannot understand why more cafe and restaurant owners have either not woken up to this strategy, or they still refuse to do it!
We moved to a new suburb about six months ago and I faced this challenge straight away.
The first cafe I went into, which was closest to our office, said they did not have Wi-Fi and did not intend to provide it.
So I explored further along the street and found other favourite spots for coffee and food.
I am not sure if my visit, (and then subsequently walking past – no visits), had any impact… but I noticed recently that they are now offering free Wi-Fi.
So, to the strategy.
Using mobile apps for marketing is the strategy here.
Installing the Wi-Fi is just the first step.
Then you must let people know that it is available.
The most obvious and simple way to do this is a sign out the front that says free Wi-Fi. LOL
But let’s get a bit more tech savvy than that.
Search for Free Wi-Fi Finder, or something similar.
There are many apps offering a service where people can find free Wi-Fi hotspots in their area.
I find these apps particular useful when I am traveling.
These services provide the option for you to register your home Wi-Fi spot.
It is usually very easy for business owners to register their venue on these apps using mobile apps for marketing.
And then, of course, to be found by people looking for a free Wi-Fi spot.
Now there are other apps that are worth registering your business on.
Apps that help people find coffee shops and cafes in the area they are in.
Surely it makes sense to invest some time registering your business in these apps.
Well, that is quite simple really!
