The whole point of sending an email Newsletter should be to get people back to your website where they will buy or subscribe or take some desired action.
Or at the very least, to give you a call or go to your shop.
But in almost all cases, we are reading your email newsletter on acapable device, and the email newsletter should temp us to want . . .
more information about your business, your product or your service.
We live in an instantaneous society . . . for better or worse.
We cannot wait to drive to the shop, or to give you a call the next morning, (because we might be doing this at 10pm at night).
And the quickest and most instant way for us to get that information is for your newsletter to direct us straight to your website where we can read the rest of the article and maybe browse a couple more pages while we are there.
But it doesn’t
What prompted me to write this particular blog post is that I just received an interesting email about Branding.
I was so intrigued, in fact, that I wanted to find out more . . . so I started scanning the email for ways to do just that.
No Active Links
There are no active links in the email, other than links to unsubscribe from the list – important because it is required by law.
And a link to “View this email in your web browser”.
“Great!”, I thought, “at least I will be able to get to their website.”
But what happened?
Nothing of the kind.
When I clicked on the link, I certainly saw the email newsletter in my web browser but . . .
It was displayed in the website of the provider of the email newsletter service, (something to do with monkeys, I think, LOL), but not in their own website.
Not even their website
It was not even their website, but a third party service provider.
Not only that . . . but there were no links to their website visible on that newsletter page, nor any other contact details.
It was a blind alley, and my search got no further.
So, as a final resort . . .
I went back to the email newsletter and clicked reply in the hope of opening communication with them by email.
How we do it differently
At Hotpink , we definitely support the use of e-mail newsletters as a marketing tool, but we do things very differently.
We use software that is integrated into your website. There are many benefits to this strategy including:
- You do not need to remember separate passwords.
- The content that you create benefits the Google ranking for your website
- You only need to create and post your content once, and not in multiple locations.
But most importantly of all, your e-mail newsletter is full of links back to your website.
The end result is more leads, more sales, more turnover for your business. You are
Not rocket science
This is not rocket science to set up.
But so many web developers that I am told about by clients and friends have no idea about how to do this.
Case in point is a couple that I met recently who were asking about how to get more out of their website.
I explained to them how we set things up.
They’ve asked their current web developer about doing this on their website.
Apparently, he had no idea about this.
So . . .
Yet another website that has limited value to its owners, and has so much potential to do more for them.
Well, that is quite simple really!
