This year, Wistia celebrates our tenth anniversary.
Looking back, it’s clear that there’s a sharp demarcation between the first five years and the last five years of our history.
For the first five years of our existence, we logged our data, looked at our analytics. And did everything that we thought a normal company was supposed to do.
Our team page looked legit.
We did demos over the phone with potential clients and screencasts on our website.
But it wasn’t until 2011, when we put up our first “Team Wistia” video, that our growth actually took off.
We went from growing at a rate of about one person a year to a rate of about eleven a year.
A two-minute video of us screwing around in our office. It’s weird to think that that was the moment we realized Wistia was going to succeed.
And it was. Because that was the moment when we found our competitive advantage, our ability to be creative and do engaging and original work.
Not much of a growth hack, I know.
But this realization fundamentally changed our business. And there’s nothing stopping you from doing what we did.
Let’s go through the different ways that discovering our creativity made Wistia succeed. And you’ll see how you can implement the same techniques yourself.
